Arkham Horror: Supernatural, test run

Three friends came over last night and we tried out the Arkham Horror set I made with the Supernatural characters for the first time. Niki did “arts and crafts” to make the game pieces, which looked great. Since it was a weeknight, we played with no expansions; the game took 3 hours, which was just right.

I couldn’t have asked for a better run. The fans of the show said the feel was spot on, with the mechanics encouraging players to use the characters in a similar way to how they acted on the show.

We tried out Sam and Dean, John, and Joanna Beth. Dean pulled weapons out of his trunk the whole game, and only got sent to jail once for credit card fraud. Joanna Beth kept taking Dean’s weapons, and leaping through gates. John told people to get out of the street a lot (we were up against Ithaqua, who does Stamina damage if you’re left in the street; with John, they could fight in the street and get to cover.) He was grumpy and didn’t consult as he ran around on his own errands. Sam stockpiled magic and weapons, and then got cocky when he got Ruby as his ally, no longer fearing encounters.

We had a great time, and I look forward to playing again and getting some more of the gang on the table.

  1. Iknow of Supernatural, but never caught it sadly. i do loooove Arkham Horror though. Especially as it lets you actually roleplay while playing a board game. Hmmm, a blog thought occurs…

Anyway, just wanted to give my props for the idea of mixing it up. I wonder if anyone else out there is thinking about a Doctor Who/Arkham Horror cross over right now?

Yeah, Doctor Who is a natural; he shows up when the universe and/or Earth is in danger, no matter the time period.

I’ve also contemplated Star Trek, one away team per generation. =)

Charmed is a suggestion that’s come in, and I’ve contemplated Buffy.

Previously, I’ve done Bat Team and X Men (and other comic book stuff), played with Heroclix on the board.

    No end to the fun!
